Today I experienced my first fall while running. It wasn't too bad, scraped my knees, bruised the bottom of my right hand where it meets the wrist, but amazingly didn't break my phone.
Hopefully I will be out there tomorrow since D and I signed up for a half marathon that takes place on his 30th birthday in October. The thing is though, neither of us have been keeping up with regular running or working out. Hopefully this will be our motivator.
In other news- we got into the preschool we wanted for L. It's only 1 day a week and parent participation, but it's so neat, very nature based. My practice is picking up and it looks like I may actually bring in some income this month- meaning I will make more then my expenses for the month. This is a big deal since my office rent doubled to it's full amount this month.
L's 2 year birthday is coming up very soon. I have yet to really plan anything or settle on a date. D and I also have an anniversary coming up and need to plan that. L has been like a little hulk- so much energy and emotion and no way of regulating it yet. He is in this new phase where he "hates" daddy when I am around. So we hear a lot of "No, no Daddy, just mommy" or "not daddy's, only mommys" - that last one is in reference to the new family iPad. Sometimes L and I will be in his bed reading and D will walk into the room and L screams and tantrums, "no, no daddy". Poor D and poor me, I can't get a break without a tantrum. But hey- L has really cut down on the hitting and hating of other children! It's so true that with kids everything is always changing...

Yoga.
D and I did hot yoga today (bikram). This is something I was very into years ago. It's yoga done in a heated room with high humidity. I was impressed with how ok I felt doing it. When I first began bikram I would have to sit down a lot, would feel nauseated, and basically wondered why anyone would subject themselves to such torture (ha reminds me of how running initially felt too- well if i was running underneath a heater). But today, although my core felt very weak, I had more stamina and strength then I thought I would. I guess any exercise keeps those things up. But my core- oh how weak it felt. I'm fairly flexible in some postures, and although I could have gone deeper into them, my core would not have held me up to do so. But thats the point of doing this- to have a more well-rounded fitness regimen, Running is great, but I was missing the focus, core building, and stretching that yoga provides. Yoga is very mental- like running, but instead of getting out of my body like I do while running, I focus on being more mindful of my body. So again it's a great compliment. During this class my mind wavered a lot- I went through stages of believing I should come every day, to knowing this was a huge mistake and I should probably go home to take a nap. Ultimately I left the class rejuvenated and energized. I can't say the same for D- he was grumpy and burnt. Even still, we are both looking forward to our next class.
And about that job interview- I cancelled it. It was not the right fit. But I do have a few applications out for jobs that would be great. Although they are full time, they are near my family and would allow for less time in daycare. And it would be really nice to get paid well for what I do...really nice. This year is absolutely going to be a year of big changes.

How to almost accidently complete a triathlon:
This weekend has made D and I a little delirious, but boy did we accomplish a lot. My mom came up on Friday to visit and watch L because D and I had a race on Saturday- yep first ever husband wife race! This was a trail run not just a regular 5k- meaning it had intense hills and part of it was on a tiny 1 lane trail that had some dangerous slops to slip down. I wasn't aware it was going to be that intense and spent much of the race thinking- "at least I am learning something about myself- I don't like trail runs". We ran together and came in around 38/39 minutes- crazy slow compared to our regular pace.
After the race we showered, ate, and headed out to buy our laundry room cabinets. We got an amazing deal at the local Habitat for Humanity Restore- $150 for 2 base cabinets, a huge wall cabinet and molding. Unfortunately the huge wall cabinet wouldn't fit in our car so we had to make an extra trip and borrow a truck. We also needed to smog and oil a car so we wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone- D's brother works for a oil and smog service station- so the plan was to drop off our car (while it gets serviced) and take his truck to get the cabinet...sounds so smart and efficient, right?
HA! Well D's brother that owns the truck wasn't working at the station, but his other brother was. And the truck we needed was at D's parents house loaded with music equipment from D's Dads band that played out the night before. We were still committed to our plan since we needed to pick up the cabinet and maybe we were a little high from the morning run. The plan was this:
D would take our car to the station to be smogged and get the oil changed. D would take his brothers car to his parents house where he would unload the music equipment so the cabinet could fit in the truck. He would then go pick up the cabinet, drop it off at our place, return the truck to his parents house, reload the music equipment. Then drive back to the station in his brothers car, pick up our car and come on home.
So this was still the plan- D is such a trooper! But then we got some other news- his brother who was working at the station whose car D was to borrow didn't drive to work, he rode his bike! So then the plan included riding his brothers bike to his brothers home to get his car, THEN go to his parents and so on as listed above.
And after all these hoops D was still committed to the plan....everything worked out and and thats how my guy almost accidently did a triathlon.
But the madness didn't end there- we also moved the office into our extra bedroom, gave my mom the bed and nightstands that were in there (she left with a car full of furniture and a mattress on the roof), and started to turn the office into a playroom/den (for some pretty necessary reasons that I will post about when I post up the finished room). And today I have managed to primer all the laundry room cabinets and am almost done painting them. We are so close to be done with the laundry room, and then I can relax...or not.

Stubborn
I am extremely stubborn at times- one of those times would be the reason why I now have to take a hopefully short break from running. And I feel absolutely crap-tastic when I don't run- it's addicting and I need my fix...
So I had that toe injury since L was born- I was stubborn and convinced it would heal on it's own for 6 months- then I gave up to seek medical help, but instead became stubborn again thinking it would resolve on it's own. Why did I think this? Well it showed the smallest improvement and I kinda freaked about having the surgery.
Seems like no harm no foul now that I had the surgery and it looks to be resolved...except that for the whole year it hurt had caused me to alter how I walked, and put pressure on my right foot. I even ran an average of 8 miles a week with it for the last 8 months.
I think compensating for the pain in my toe caused me to further injure my right foot- I now have plantar fasciitis. It is only in the right foot and it sucks. I have been running despite the pain increasing but realized this will only create more problems.
It's been 3 days since I ran, 2 days since any exercise, and I am noticing a huge improvement. I am actually taking steps that are free of pain- and I don't have to wobble in the mornings or after long periods of sitting. But I am also feeling down, lazy, unmotivated, and just yucky.
Hopefully a few more days and I can slowly return to my schedule. I have a race on the 17th- another 5k and something to look forward to.

I'm a runner.
This morning I woke up and completed a 5 mile run outside. I took it slow, paced myself, and barely battled with the distance. Earlier this week I PR my 5K on the treadmill (32:36). I rewarded myself with some lululemon running pants (LOVE!), and the lady at the register asked "are you a runner?", I almost said no, or something about just starting out - but I stopped myself and said "yeah". So I guess I consider myself a runner. Now to go buy some body glide!

And now for pictures: Race editions
As I mentioned in my update post- I really thought I might puke after crossing the finish line and it shows in the picture. I love that the woman behind me is all excited and cheering for herself (she probably completed the half) and I look like I want to die.
Updates
Woah, we've been busy...too busy and now I need a vacation.
I ran in my first race on Sunday- totally got the running bug and have been looking up future races to register for. This one seems like a ton of fun- but not sure if I can do a 10K yet. I completed the Gun Bun Fun Run which is the last 5K/3.1 miles of the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon (possibly something I can accomplish next year). I was able to run the whole time and I ran about a 10:57 min mile pace, making it to the finish line in 34:02. Not fast considering the winners of the half marathon were under a 5 min mile pace (yes that the pace average for 13.1 miles!!!). But its the fastest I have completed a 5K, and I can cross it off my 28 for 28 list! At the end I got a hige burst fo energy seeing the finish line and all the cheering- but as soon as I crossed and stopped I thought I was going to puke! Fortunately the feeling passed (it would have been pretty embarrassing).
We have also done a lot with the laundry room. The plumber came. It's very refreshing to know a local reliable plumber who will do work for cash- so we saved about 60% off the quotes I was getting. Sadly after the nice new plumbing was done, D nailed through the water line while securing the floor- we were freaking out! The plumber came right back, repaired it free of charge. We put up and tape/mud most of the sheet rock and D did all the tiling (because L absolutely refused to be put down or away from me). Now I don't love these tiles- but we were going to cheap. I even contemplated vinyl- but the styles were hideous and I didn't have time to order- gotta do some laundry! So we picked these 18" squares up for $2 a piece- they are much more blue/gray in person.
Last night we installed the washer and dryer and everything seems to work great. I have to say that I am so glad this is the last big project we will do in this house. Renovating is a stressful process (ever seen that show Renovation Realities?). I like to think that D and I are better off then the average DIYer (because of our experience, help from family), but every time we delve into a reno there are snags, frustrations, and it almost always takes much longer then anticipated. Well that was how I would describe it pre baby- when both D and I were able to work. Add L into the mix, as well as his resent teething madness- and its almost impossible. Only one of us could work on the laundry room at a time- L also ended up getting a high fever over the weekend (still don't know the cause, had no other symptoms). L has regressed a bit with sleeping in his crib and prefers to be back in our bed. D also took a little more time then planned helping family with their projects- it wasn't very harmonious around here for a bit.
I think my body is starting to feel the effects of L nursing less or...something. I always felt an added benefit of nursing so long was the lack of fluctuations in hormones, stable mood, and no monthly changes (yep no cycle!). Well now it seems like I'm in a constant state of PMS (still no cycle). What does it mean? Do I need to supplement with more vitamins? Is this just my body's way of preparing for the cycle of death- 2 years in the making...reminds me of Annuale.
Will post pictures of laundry room soon.

Getting lighter
I always said I wouldn't take my weight loss seriously till I lost at least 10 lbs- so far I can claim 10.5 lbs. I can officially acknowledge the hard work. I think running has been the biggest help with loosing weight- and nursing L.
So in celebration I registered for my first 5K race- July 17th. Not because I'm such a hot shot runner that I would place- heck I will probably come in close to last. I'm doing it more for a way to motivate myself and keep things challenging- running on the treadmill gets boring and outside runs are few and far between- also I can cross it off my list of 28 things for my 28th year.
