Random tidbits but I should be studying...
I got my letter informing me that my application for my license was accepted and I am eligible to sit for the exams- so yes, I should be studying. Studying is so different now, being out of school for over 3 years and having a baby. And it also means that when I am licensed I have decisions to make- get a part time job, open a private practice (where?), stay home (might not be able to)....
Tomorrow I am hosting a playdate at my home- excited, anxious, curious...L hasn't really had to share his toys/space with many other children.
The laundry room is so close to being done, we bought a jogging stroller yesterday (finally), D and I are doing a 10k training schedule, planning D a surprise (sorta) bday gathering for next week, distracting myself from studying by thinking about when is the best time to have another baby, stressing over being so far away from my mother with future other baby (talk about a ridiculous thing to think about now). Lots of stuff happening/on my mind...
I'm going to go study now...

The last few days...
I have wondered whether I had an ulcer, appendicitis, was pregnant, another stomach bug? Basically starting wednesday I felt sick, exhausted, and nauseated. It came and went- sometimes I felt fine, others I needed to lay down and even napped during the day (which I never do). By Thursday I was way worse...and I was alone with L. Being a sick mama is so hard, but you just suck it up. I don't think it's an accident or coincidence that I didn't throw up till after D came home and I was able to be by myself and not caring for L. Last night was bad and I toyed with the idea of going to the ER- my awesome mom came up to help us out with L (D was leaving very early the next morning for work). I am a lot better today, but far from well.
So what was it? Not sure (sure I am not pregnant though and wont be for a while since it reminded me what that first trimester of morning sickness was like- pure hell).

How to almost accidently complete a triathlon:
This weekend has made D and I a little delirious, but boy did we accomplish a lot. My mom came up on Friday to visit and watch L because D and I had a race on Saturday- yep first ever husband wife race! This was a trail run not just a regular 5k- meaning it had intense hills and part of it was on a tiny 1 lane trail that had some dangerous slops to slip down. I wasn't aware it was going to be that intense and spent much of the race thinking- "at least I am learning something about myself- I don't like trail runs". We ran together and came in around 38/39 minutes- crazy slow compared to our regular pace.
After the race we showered, ate, and headed out to buy our laundry room cabinets. We got an amazing deal at the local Habitat for Humanity Restore- $150 for 2 base cabinets, a huge wall cabinet and molding. Unfortunately the huge wall cabinet wouldn't fit in our car so we had to make an extra trip and borrow a truck. We also needed to smog and oil a car so we wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone- D's brother works for a oil and smog service station- so the plan was to drop off our car (while it gets serviced) and take his truck to get the cabinet...sounds so smart and efficient, right?
HA! Well D's brother that owns the truck wasn't working at the station, but his other brother was. And the truck we needed was at D's parents house loaded with music equipment from D's Dads band that played out the night before. We were still committed to our plan since we needed to pick up the cabinet and maybe we were a little high from the morning run. The plan was this:
D would take our car to the station to be smogged and get the oil changed. D would take his brothers car to his parents house where he would unload the music equipment so the cabinet could fit in the truck. He would then go pick up the cabinet, drop it off at our place, return the truck to his parents house, reload the music equipment. Then drive back to the station in his brothers car, pick up our car and come on home.
So this was still the plan- D is such a trooper! But then we got some other news- his brother who was working at the station whose car D was to borrow didn't drive to work, he rode his bike! So then the plan included riding his brothers bike to his brothers home to get his car, THEN go to his parents and so on as listed above.
And after all these hoops D was still committed to the plan....everything worked out and and thats how my guy almost accidently did a triathlon.
But the madness didn't end there- we also moved the office into our extra bedroom, gave my mom the bed and nightstands that were in there (she left with a car full of furniture and a mattress on the roof), and started to turn the office into a playroom/den (for some pretty necessary reasons that I will post about when I post up the finished room). And today I have managed to primer all the laundry room cabinets and am almost done painting them. We are so close to be done with the laundry room, and then I can relax...or not.

House Tour
I like to have my home organized, clean, everything in it's place. This never actually happens, and now that L is very mobile and creative I need to start letting go and just living in the chaos. I snapped a few photos the other day- yes this is all in one day.

September Loves
Here are a few things I'm loving this month...
Trader Joe's Medjool Dates
I can't believe I never had a date by itself till earlier this week. They taste like brown sugar and are actually good for you. L loves them as well- oh and they are super soft and safe for babies. D and I have been eating Lara bars for a while and have tossed around the idea of making our own (they are expensive!). Well we finally did last night- following this recipe and they came out- in my opinion- better then the store bought ones. These bars are going to be our go to baby/mommy/daddy snack from now on.
Bay Area Discovery Museum
D and I took L here a few days ago and I can't decide who had more fun- me, L, or D. This place is A-MAZING for little kids and it's in beautiful Sausalito with views of the Golden Gate bridge. So much safe exploring and exposure to nature. The water was L's favorite and we had to change his clothes because he got so wet from splashing- even though they provided adorable mini aprons. It's a bit expensive and I am kicking myself now for not getting a membership since I see us going there a lot in the future.
Habitat for Humanity Restore
One of these opened near us and we wished we could have utilized it during all our renovations. This will most likely be where we get the cabinets for the laundry room.
Smoothies
We bought a new blender and I used it 4 times the day it arrived- L and I consume a lot of smoothies. Our favorites right now: mixed frozen berries, 1 banana, 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk, 1 handful of kale, 1/4 of an avocado, and a bit of ice or 2 bananas, 1 big spoonful of peanut butter, 1 handful of kale or spinach, 1 cup of almond milk, and a bit of ice. Up All Night
So I know the show hasn't even aired yet but the preview looks hilarious (obviously having just became parents makes this right up our alley). Bonus- we love Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph. Really excited to watch it tonight.
Mom Groups
So far I'm really enjoying meeting these moms and kiddos...

Visiting the Redwoods
Last week (after we bought our new car- so in love with it), we headed up to Marin to eat Sol Food and visit Muir Woods. Here are some cute pictures from the trip.

Capacity Zone...
I used to use the statement with my clients, "growth occurs when we get out of our comfort zone and into our capacity zone." Today L and I braved a local moms group. It's been on my to do list for quite some time, but my anxiety and life has gotten in the way. We met up at the park near our house- L had a great time. Everyone was really nice and we are going to some more play dates later this week.

Stubborn
I am extremely stubborn at times- one of those times would be the reason why I now have to take a hopefully short break from running. And I feel absolutely crap-tastic when I don't run- it's addicting and I need my fix...
So I had that toe injury since L was born- I was stubborn and convinced it would heal on it's own for 6 months- then I gave up to seek medical help, but instead became stubborn again thinking it would resolve on it's own. Why did I think this? Well it showed the smallest improvement and I kinda freaked about having the surgery.
Seems like no harm no foul now that I had the surgery and it looks to be resolved...except that for the whole year it hurt had caused me to alter how I walked, and put pressure on my right foot. I even ran an average of 8 miles a week with it for the last 8 months.
I think compensating for the pain in my toe caused me to further injure my right foot- I now have plantar fasciitis. It is only in the right foot and it sucks. I have been running despite the pain increasing but realized this will only create more problems.
It's been 3 days since I ran, 2 days since any exercise, and I am noticing a huge improvement. I am actually taking steps that are free of pain- and I don't have to wobble in the mornings or after long periods of sitting. But I am also feeling down, lazy, unmotivated, and just yucky.
Hopefully a few more days and I can slowly return to my schedule. I have a race on the 17th- another 5k and something to look forward to.

Birthday Outfit
I'm still floored by cuteness when I look at these pictures of L in his bday outfit. The bow tie is from etsy seller Baby By Stevie and it stayed on all day! The shirt is just a plain button down from gymboree (it had buttons on the collar which really helped keep the bow in place). The jeans are from Gap- as mentioned before, the Gap has great baby clothes right now. His shoes are Livie & Luca and were the very first things I bought when I was pregnant (got a good deal on Baby Steals)- I didn't know if I was having a boy or girl but I thought they would be cute for either.
Enough of that- now enjoy the pictures:

Happy 1st Birthday!
L turned 1 and we had a party. It was stressful- I get crazy anxiety when hosting anything- add in that most peple got lost on their way and weren't in the best space when they arrived and a baby and husband that just over the stomach flu...
I joke that I probably had several small strokes through out the event...seems plausible.
But it was also incredibly fun and I was so grateful to have such wonderful family and friends there to love our little guy. My mom made most of the food and it was delicious (though I barely ate while the arty was going on). L loved the cupcakes. And advice to anyone throwing a party with kids- bubble machine and beach ball- those two things entertained all the kids and made for some awesome pictures.
So here are afew many pictures of our little birthday boy.
